Information on Ear Disorders

Earache is not a health condition in itself. Ear aches are caused due to various reasons like ear infections, injuries etc. It is not necessary that every ear ache should be due to blocking of Eustachian tube. Ear ache can be caused due to certain conditions within the ear like affects on pinna (outer visible ear) and ear canal. In ear infections (also known as otitis media), Eustachian tube in the middle ear becomes swollen and inflamed. Further viral and bacterial infections build up (accumulates) fluids like mucus and pus behind the ear drum. As the Eustachian tube is inflamed and swollen it disrupts the easy drainage of fluid. When such infections persist for prolonged periods or are left untreated, these infections produce symptoms like ear aches.

Ear Threads are the hot trend for winter and they are catching on like wildfire! Browse any fashion magazine and you’ll see them: ear threads, ear threaders, threader earrings, ear threads. They go by different names, but all of the names help to describe these unique earrings that the wearer actually “threads” through the ear hole. To wear, guide the Sterling Silver Ear Threads through one or more of your piercing and let the earring dangle. Wear the ear thread equal length on both sides or let more chain dangle on one side of the ear lobe for a different look. Many also come with a rubber backing, to keep the chain in place.

Three sensory systems primarily govern our balance. These are the visual system, dependent on the eyes, the inner ear (or vestibular) system, and the general system of sensory experiences, run by joint, muscle, and skin position sensors. The brain is constantly fed information about our position in the space we occupy by these three systems. The brain processes this vital information in order to adjust the position of our limbs accordingly. In most cases, this happens sub-consciously and we are not aware of the incredibly subtle changes that go on within us.

Ear pain is one of the chief complaints for both adults and children. It is important for the cause of the ear pain to be determined before tying to treat the symptom. This can be the symptom of a direct cause or an indirect cause (pain which originates from another region of the body and radiates into the ear). Treatment of ear pain will depend entirely on the underlying cause. Treatment can range from antibiotics to surgery. In fact for some causes of it, there is no real way to prevent the pain, only to treat the symptom itself.

Single-gene Disorders: Also known as Medallion or monogenic disorders, these occur when the changes or mutations occur in only a single gene. Some well-known examples of single-gene disorders include cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, Marfan syndrome, Huntington's disease and hereditary hemochromatosis. Single gene disorders can be further classified into autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, X-linked dominant, X-linked recessive and Y-linked disorders.

Swimmer's ear usually caused due to excess exposure to water. When the ear drenches in water penetrates the water resistant layer and skin become soft and results in wrinkles after staying for long period of time in water. Bacteria and fungus without any harmful effects affect that water-exposed skin but in any case if there is a break in the skin barrier then water can easily slip inside the skin and thus results 'swimmer's ear'.
